MMNyc718: Commish where are you from?

Dj CMC: The BX

MMNyc718: How long have you been a deejay?

Dj CMC: 10 years overall but 8 years in the clubs.

MMNyc718: Where did the name Commish come from?

Dj CMC: It was a name that was given to me while in college.  I went to St. John's University and created the Urban Music Dept. at the school's radio station (WSJU).  I have somewhere between 40 - 50 members in the department.  The GM wasn't always around so I did my part to keep everything in line so the staff named me "The Commissioner". That name stuck with me.

MMNyc718: who are some of your influences that made you  want to become a deejay?

Dj CMC: When I was in high school going to clubs that I had no business getting into, I use to listen to DJ Ace "The Crowd Motivator" and Big Kap.  On the radio, I was listening to Red Alert and Funkmaster Flex.  On the mixtape scene, there was Craig G & S&S, Double R, Ron G. and Kid Capri.  I listened to all of them.

MMNyc718: What are some of the opportunities or things that you have seen because your a deejay?

Dj CMC: There's so many to name.  I would have been to places if I wasn't a DJ.

MMNyc718: Do you remember your first time deejaying a party or event?

Dj CMC: I was in college hosting a party when my DJ had to go to the bathroom.  I never had any practice as a DJ but he gave me a 2 minute crash course during the party and made me spin while he went to the bathroom. I always had a sense of selection so I was ok.  When he came back, he felt that I had it under control so he went to sleep in the booth and let me finish the party.

MMNyc718: What is next for Dj Commish in 2009?

Dj CMC: I definitely want to travel overseas this year and get to commercial radio.  I also want to start a management and event marketing company and get a show on commercial radio.

MMNyc718: Where can people find mixes, Cd's, and  dates of where you will be spinning?

Dj CMC: All of my info and cd's can be found in one place.
www.djcommish.com <http://www.djcommish.com> .  Log on and download my free mixtapes into your i-tunes, ipods or convert them to cd's for your car. Whatever you like to do, it's there on the website.

MMNyc718: Who is the "GREATIEST" deejay of all time in your eye's?

Dj CMC: That is such a tough question.  If you ask anyone where I'm from, they would say either Herc, Flash, or Bam.  I can't disagree with that but I would have to throw Red Alert in that argument too.  He was the 1st to have a radio show, the 1st to have the opportunity to put the music out there to the masses on a weekly basis and he's still out there 25 years later.  He also screamed on me in a packed club when I was spinning.  I was having a tough time dealing with a promoter and I told him that I was thinking about quitting as a DJ.  He let me have it and told me to keep doing what I'm doing.  That was 7 years ago. Thanks Uncle Red!

The MiddleManNyc718 would like to thank Dj Commish for taking the time to answer a few questions. Also would like to say I appreciate you given me the time to do this interview.

MMNyc718: Where were born and raised Datin?

DATIN: I was born and raised in the Brick city (Newark, NJ) and still currently reside here

MMNyc718: What made you want to become an Emcee?

DATIN: Well when I started rapping it was as a joke to entertain my homeboys on the block..
I had no confidence so I really didn't take it serious... I loved hip hop and wanted to be a part of it, but me being a Emcee seemed so Far fetched to me... but as I got older and went to High school I would see
al ot of cats in cyphers and I would think to myself " man I could go toe to toe with these dudes and I do this playing around!" I had my homeboy Dramatic in one of my classes and he would constantly spit verses at me.. I told him that I could spit to, so he asked to hear something.... I made sure I went home that night and wrote a verse to spit to him the next day...I got up with him the next day and spit my first written verse... He gave me crazy feedback... he was so hype off my verse that he had me spit it to a whole bunch of other cats and after I spit to them they went crazy! So it was their reaction to my verses that mad me want to be a Emcee... The attention Fueled me to keep doing this and it built my confidence up and I've been taking this serious ever since.

MMNyc718: Can you give a brief rundown of your resume?

DATIN: Well I've won a whole bunch of battles all over from NJ to NY to Detroit
all the way 2
Paris France.... I'm a former 106 and park "Freestyle Friday Champ".. I've been in a couple DVD's like Proof (R.I.P) and Bizarre of D12's Who wanna battle DVD... I've toured in Spain and in France.... I released a mixtape entitled "The death and rebirth of...." and moved over 10,000 copy's independently... and I've also recorded some songs with some Big names in this game.

MMNyc718: Who were some of your "Biggest" influences on the young Datin?

DATIN: Wow...well as a young lad my first influence came from "Bone Thugs In Harmony" man! Those were my dudes b! they still are! I'm their biggest fan lol.. I actually got to record a joint with Krazie Bone recently... but my biggest influence came from "NAS" man... I think he's the"GREATEST" to ever do it b... as a Emcee you strive to be better than who you consider to be the best.... Well "NAS" set the bar really high b... I tip my hat to dude... he definitely inspires me.

MMNyc718: What pushes or makes you strive to be a better artist?

DATIN: I aim to be the "BEST" at what I do.... and that's what drives me to be a better artist... I'm constantly trying to raise the bar
for myself... and that keeps me on point........

MMNyc718: What is your opinion of the Hip Hop scene as a whole?

DATIN: Its Dead! it Sucks! all I hear is the same song sung a million different ways!
everybody saying things that other dudes have already said before... its whack.. I love hip hop but I hate where its at b..everybody "TRASH" with the exception of a couple people...cause even in the mist of this famine u still have some cats in the game putting it down.

MMNyc718: Who have you worked with as far as production? And who are you looking forward to working with in 2009?

DATIN: Well I've worked with Charlamange, Scram Jones, Alchemist, The Heatmakers, and DJ Static..... for 2009 I'm working with some real talented dudes with some heat!!! My man Trin-D-zle, Willie Okkz,T-Wyla, Elete, Capi Coo and a couple other hungry producers.

MMNyc718: What is your favorite track off The Death and Rebirth Mixtape?

DATIN: well that mixtape is a couple years old now...I was rapping from where I was at at that time...that mixtape was critically acclaimed and I sold a lot of them but I'm not proud of piece of work... I was young, ignorant and lost when I wrote that material..If I had 2 pick a song it would be "THE PROMISE (Remix)" cause it was real and the most heart felt, but besides that my message on the rest of that mixtape was off... Its a new day and a new Datin... I'm ready to make my "GRAND ENTRANCE" and re-introduce myself to everybody... this time I have something to say!!

MMNyc718: Where can people find material or get info about Datin?

DATIN: I have a album due this summer entitled "The Grand Entrance"... this time its 4 Real!!! I ain't pushing it back anymore!
so stay on the look out 4 that! in the meantime they can check me @
www.myspace.com/datinddd and at www.simplyflow.com. Thanks 4 the support ya'll!! Peace and God Bless u all!!!!
